IVE has joined forces with world-renowned DJ David Guetta for their latest single, Supernova Love, an electrifying track that merges k-pop with eletronic music.
Released as the debut project in The Collab X’s new “Collab” series, Supernova Love is described by Guetta as “a global anthem that celebrates the strength and beauty of love across cultures.” The song also honors the late Ryuichi Sakamoto, sampling his iconic 1983 track Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, from the movie of the same name.
For both IVE and Guetta, this collaboration has been a creative journey. Guetta, known for his wide-reaching collaborations, described his work with IVE as “an incredible experience (…) K-pop is such a unique and innovative genre, and bringing our musical worlds together was truly inspiring.” Likewise, the South Korean girl group expressed that collaborating with the French DJ was “truly fun and we feel honoured to be able to release such a great song with a beautiful melody.”
The music video for Supernova Love, released alongside the single, captures IVE’s cosmic theme as they perform against a backdrop of stars and galaxies, amplifying the song’s universal message of love. NASA even gave a shoutout to the track, sharing a real supernova image along with the line “A supernova glowing in the dark” from the song’s lyrics, delighting fans with the unexpected blend of music and space.
This single also showcases IVE’s expanding global influence, marking their second English-language release following All Night, their collaboration with Saweetie earlier this year. Following their Show What I Have world tour, IVE is set to take the stage at the 2024 MAMA Awards in Japan on Nov. 22, where fans hope to see a live performance of Supernova Love alongside their recent hits. TOMORROW X TOGETHER, ENHYPEN, BOYNEXTDOOR, TREASURE, ME:I, izna, and PLAVE are also performing on the same day.
As the first installment of The Collab X series, Supernova Love is a prime example of East-meets-West collaborations that connect artists from different genres and cultural backgrounds. Kim Daniel, founder of The Collab X and KDM RECORDS, previously brought ATEEZ and Don Diablo together for a different project.
