Tyler, the Creator, known for his boundless creativity and electrifying performances, stole the show at Coachella on Saturday night (April 13). Taking the stage as the headliner, Tyler didn’t just deliver a concert; he created an immersive experience that left fans in awe.
Transforming the main stage into a desert canyon, Tyler’s set was a visual feast, with lighting and projections that transported the audience to another world. From the moment he burst onto the stage, emerging from a trailer at the base of rock formations, the energy was palpable.
Reflecting on his journey to Coachella, Tyler shared a nostalgic moment with the crowd. “The first time I played Coachella was 2011,” he reminisced, “I didn’t know what the f*ck Coachella was, but me and my friends at the time, we went by Odd Future. And it was great. We were in a house. We rented a crib, went to target n—a, bought some snacks, and performed. The performance was terrible. But it was awesome.”
Since those early days with Odd Future, Tyler has evolved into a master of his craft. Throughout his 80-minute set, he commanded the stage with confidence and charisma, seamlessly blending tracks from his discography with captivating visuals and theatrical flair.
But the real magic happened when Tyler brought out some special guests. Childish Gambino, A$AP Rocky, Charlie Wilson, and Kali Uchis all made appearances, adding an extra layer of excitement to the already electric atmosphere.
After Childish Gambino joined Tyler for “Running Out of Time,” the headliner revealed to the crowd “You know what’s sick? I used to hate that n—a. Seriously. I don’t know why, I gotta go to therapy to figure it out, but this n—a put this song called ‘Urn’ out. It was so undeniable n—a, I was at conflict with myself, like f*ck, how could a n—a I hate so much make something so good?”
Tyler also shared that he had felt the same way about A$AP Rocky, who joined him for “Potato Salad” and “Who Dat Boy.” “You know what’s crazy? I used to hate that n—a too,” he said. “OK we thought we had beef. it was the n—s around us and then me and Rock was like, we got love and now we friends.”
Later on, Charlie Wilson added his soulful touch to “Earfquake”, while Kali Uchis joined Tyler for the chorus from their collaboration “See You Again.” Each guest brought their own unique energy to the stage, enhancing the already unforgettable performance.
