Megan took this opportunity to open up to Billboard about a plethora of topics including but not limited to politics, her latest album, and being more selfish by putting herself first. This versatile and well-informed queen covers it all!

Regarding her latest album, Megan, she explains, “With this album, I wanted to show people my personal interests and thoughts. I wanted to touch on my love for all things anime, all things Southern, how much I like to have fun, and I wanted to be myself. I feel like I did that. A lot of people were expecting me to come on this album talking one way and I wanted to introduce myself — this version of myself that I am right now.” We certainly get a glimpse into her love for anime with her songs “Otaku Hot Girl” and instant TikTok hit “Mamushi.” We also hear her southern roots in songs like “Accent” featuring Memphis rapper GloRilla and “Paper Together” featuring Houston rap duo UGK. And Megan undeniably details some of her deepest and personal thoughts in “COBRA.”

When it comes to voting Megan is excited about the upcoming presidential election stating, “Now we just got to get out there and go vote.” She further explained that she hates when people say they that they don’t plan to vote and how irresponsible it is at this crucial time in American politics. This may explain why she enthusiastically performed at Kamala Harris’ Atlanta, Georgia rally in July.

When asked about her self-proclaimed “selfish era” Megan stated, “I used to really care how I made a lot of people feel before how I made myself feel, before how they made me feel.” She continued, “At least now I know, ‘Let me put up my boundary.’ As soon as you make me feel a way that I don’t like, I just don’t want to deal with you anymore. You don’t got to fight evil with evil, but I don’t have to deal with this at all. I don’t have to do things to make other people smile. What am I going to do to make me smile? What you going to do to make me smile?” This is so refreshing to hear considering what Megan has been through in the past both privately and in the public eye. From losing her mother very early in her career to her very public 2020 altercation with artist Torey Lanez and its even more public legal battle. This “selfish era” is long overdue, and we are in full support of it!

At this point Megan deserves the absolute best that life and her career have to offer. She has worked very hard and very consistently to get to this position making amazing friends in the process including Beyonce, GloRilla, and Carbi B, 2 of whichhave joined her on stage for her recent Hot Girl Summer Tour. She’s hosting and performing at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards on September 11th. And as if that’s not enough, she officially has her own Pepsi commercial just in time for football season! This truly is the year of the Stallion and as supportive fans we can’t wait to see what beautiful things come her way next.
