As if a hair care line, a fragrance, and a country album weren’t enough. Our favorite Texan has dropped another bomb on us with Sir Davis. Get your drinking glasses ready, because now Beyoncé has her own whisky! And because the queen only produces quality this new venture is sure to have us all drunk in love.
On August 20th Beyoncé did what she always does when she has an announcement. She posted gorgeous photos of herself while subtly including images of her product with an obscure caption. This time the caption read, “DAVIS IN MY BONES” with 1 alcohol glass emoji on either side. At the bottom of the caption, she provides us a website to learn more. So many questions, right? Well keep reading for the answers.
Why is the singer venturing into the whisky business? It does seem random, but Beyoncé explains on her website that she, “… came to uncover that her paternal great-grandfather, Davis Hogue, had been a successful moonshiner in the American south during Prohibition and would stash his bottles in the empty knots of cedar trees on his farm for friends and kin to find and enjoy.” So clearly this was fated. And with a history like that this venture, much like her haircare line, Cécred, is close to her heart and her history.
Now that we know who Sir Davis is and why the Queen Bey is taking on this new venture besides being what she calls, “her drink of choice for years,” let’s talk about the journey and the whisky itself. Beyoncé has been working for years doing her research and having blind tastings to come up with her desired taste. She also worked in partnership with Moët Hennessy and Dr. Bill Lumsden who happens to be a “five-time International Whisky Competition Master Distiller of the Year” recipient. Only the best for Beyoncé!
She also goes into depth about the 88-proof whisky’s color, aroma, taste, and finish that should satisfy even the most experienced and detail-oriented whisky sommelier. With its deep copper color, sweet and savory aroma, rich buttery toffee taste, and fruity finish, you’ll be taken on a flavor ride. Be sure to check out the Sir Davis website for even more detailed tasting notes.
You can purchase a 750ml bottle on the Sir Davis website now for $89.99 before tax and shipping costs. And the first bottles seem to be shipping out on September 4th. So put on Cowboy Carter and raise your whisky glasses high! Cheers to Sir Davis and “the grandbaby of a moonshine man.”
