On Sunday, November 3rd, singer-songwriter Ella Mai released a surprise EP titled 3. Ella Mai is one of those celebrities that we don’t hear from often as she has always done a great job of staying out of drama and keeping her private life out of the media. Therefore, when we do hear from her it’s about music and we love her for it! So, let’s talk about her latest mini project 3 and what it may mean for her and her fans.
For those who aren’t familiar with Ella Mai, her music career took off in 2017 with her debut single and one of her biggest hits to date “Boo’d Up.” From then on, she has continued to release music and collaborate with artists like Ty Dolla $ign, Ed Sheeran, Chris Brown, H.E.R. and more. Her catalogue speaks for itself. So when the British vocal powerhouse took to Instagram to announce a surprise release it was much appreciated. She posted “AVAILABLE NOW EVERYWHERE! my 30th birthday gift to you all. 3 songs. November 3rd. one of my favorite numbers. I’ve missed you all, three times over.”
With “Hearts on Deck,” “One of These,” and “Little Things” the entire project is about 11 minutes of her usual sultry and soulful R&B. The cover of the project, much like the artist herself, is simple and elegant displaying a side profile of her face with a perfectly slicked back ponytail and a green backdrop with her name at the top.
With Ella’s last studio album Heart on My Sleeve being released in 2022 and her debut self-titled album being released 4 years before that, the only question fans may have is, will there be an album to follow this EP? Was 3 a preview of more to come or was Ella just giving us a taste to last us for an undetermined amount of time? The very private artist has left us no clues but that’s okay. In the meantime, we have the 3 songs on 3 to enjoy.
