In 2021 there was a South Korean Netflix series that took the world by storm and was an instant hit. Regardless of fan status, those pink jumpsuits, and black masks with either a triangle, square, or circle printed on the front were synonymous with the craze that was Squid Game. So fans, there is good news. On July 31st Netflix confirmed via their Instagram that the game will continue. Here’s what we know so far.
Season 2 of Squid Game will premiere on Netflix December 26th of this year. We also know that season 3 will be released in 2025, and although no specific date has been released, we know that it will be the final season of the series. Season 1 director, Hwang Dong-hyuk, is still on board for the 2nd and 3rd season. We can also expect to see familiar faces including Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Gong Yoo, and Wi Ha-jun as their appearance has been confirmed. There is still no word on who will return for the 3rd and final season but that may be giving up too much. We don’t want any spoilers.
So, what exactly can we expect for the next season? A clear plot has not been revealed however Netflix has also confirmed that we can expect to see 12 new faces including but not limited to Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Park Gyu-young. Maybe we can assume that there will be a new game for season 2 and these 12 new faces will be new players?
A lot is unconfirmed right now and the suspense has been building for 3 years. But the most important thing is that we have 1 confirmed release date. So, there’s only 1 thing left to say…Let the game begin!
