Although it was already reported that Ozark’s Julia Garner is expected to be a part of the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps film it has now been confirmed by Marvel. She will officially be appearing in the upcoming movie as the character Silver Surfer!
If you’re like a lot of her fans, you were introduced to her in 2022 when she starred in Inventing Anna, portraying the infamous Anna Delvy so well that we forgot she was acting. Others are fans of her Ozark character, Ruth. And others are now familiar with her because of her latest psychological thriller Apartment 7A. No matter when or how you were introduced to Garner by now you know that she is a huge talent. So it’s understandable that Marvel has chosen the perfect person to portray Silver Surfer. And we can expect her to make the role her own just like she usually does.
Reviews have been mixed as some of the comic’s oldest and most dedicated fans are not thrilled that the casting decision does not align with the original comic. However, others are thrilled to see a different spin on the character. In the 2007 film, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Doug Jones portrayed the character while Laurence Fishburne voiced the character. Obviously, the difference will be as clear as night and day. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
No matter how some people may feel about the decision, it doesn’t change the fact that Garner is a phenomenal actress and both Marvel and supporters agree that she is perfect for the role. If you’re interested in watching Julia Garner as Silver Surfer in the upcoming Fantastic Four: Next Steps film, it is expected to be released on July, 25, 2025.
