Disney has announced that Freakier Friday, the follow-up to the 2003 hit Freaky Friday, will be released in theaters on August 8, 2025. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back as the iconic mother-daughter duo who famously swapped bodies in the original film, but this time they’re tackling a new set of comedic and heartfelt challenges.
At this year’s D23 Expo, Disney revealed the title of the sequel and confirmed that much of the original cast will return for this multigenerational twist on the beloved story. Curtis and Lohan will reprise their roles as Tess and Anna, respectively, while Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, and more familiar faces from the original movie are set to return. Manny Jacinto (The Acolyte), Maitreyi Ramakrishnan (Never Have I Ever), Sophia Hammons, and Julia Butters are joining the cast.
Freakier Friday picks up years after the chaotic body swap experience that left Tess and Anna in a hilarious identity crisis. Now, Anna is navigating life as a mother with a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be step daughter. The sequel promises plenty of comedic moments as Tess and Anna “navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice,” as per synopsis.
Directed by original director Mark Waters and produced by the returning team, the film promises to recapture the spirit of the original while exploring new themes of family, change, and the unpredictable challenges of motherhood. Fans can expect the same witty humor and heartwarming moments that made Freaky Friday a classic, with a fresh twist for today’s audiences.
Mark your calendars for August 8, 2025, when Freakier Friday hits theaters and Curtis and Lohan once again swap perspectives — and maybe even bodies — in this fun-filled family adventure!
