Disney Fan Expo D23 2024: Upcoming Disney Movies Announced

Disney’s expo D23: The Ultimate Fan Event was held this past weekend from August 9, 2024, to August 11, 2024, with lots of exciting announcements and surprise guests such as: Miley Cyrus who played the iconic teen superstar who was living a double life, Hannah Montana on Disney Channel, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis who are doing an anticipated sequel to the cult classic movie hit Freaky Friday, Meghan Trainor gave a beautiful performance singing “Feed the Birds (Tuppence a Bag)” from the definitive Mary Poppins and much more. 

If you’re a fan of Disney or just movies in general, this is something you don’t want to miss. So grab your Mickey ears and let’s go! 

Compiled below are some of the newly disclosed Disney movie releases from D23.

Snow White (2025) 

The live-action version of the first Disney animation film ever made is almost here! Over the weekend, Zegler and Gadot took to the D23 stage to show fans the official new teaser trailer and it looks spectacular! In the trailer, you get a sneak peek at the seven dwarves and amazing vocals from Zegler singing “Whistle While You Work.” The magical music adventure is directed by Marc Webb, and written by Erin Cressida Wilson and Greta Gerwig. Rachel Zegler stars as the iconic Snow White and Gal Gadot as the villainous Evil Queen. The reimagining of the classic 1937 film hits theaters March 21, 2025.


The Incredibles 3 

In a delightful surprise, the third installment of The Incredibles was also confirmed over the weekend. Although not many details were announced, Brad Bird, the director of the first two installments, is set to return – according to Pete Docter, Pixar’s boss. The return of the original cast members is also still up in the air but it seems doubtful that they would replace any of the beloved voice actors. So, keep your eyes peeled for any more official announcements!

Frozen 3 (2027) 

Let it go? No! Another Frozen is set to come out in 2027 right before the Thanksgiving holiday. During an interview with Good Morning America in November 2023, Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, confirmed that there will possibly be a fourth movie to add to this franchise: “Well, I’ll give you a little surprise there, Michael. ‘Frozen 3’ is in the works and there might be a ‘Frozen 4’ in the works too (…) But I don’t have much to say about those films right now (…) Jenn Lee, who created ‘Frozen,’ the original ‘Frozen’ and ‘Frozen II,’ is hard at work with her team at Disney Animation on not one but actually two stories.” Songwriters Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez will write brand new original music for both upcoming films.


Toy Story 5 (2026) 

It seems it’s time again to see what Woody, Buzz and the rest of the toys are up to these days. That’s right, another Toy Story film is in the works! Over the weekend, a lot of details were already revealed: the fifth installment will be directed by Andrew Stanton – who has written on previous Toy Story films -, and the plot of the upcoming movie will see the toy’s facing the rapid rise of technology. Toy Story 5 will hit theaters on June 19, 2026.

Mufasa: The Lion King (2024) 

What’s that roar? That’s the brand new live-action The Lion King prequel gearing up for its release on December 20, 2024. This prequel will focus on Mufasa and Scar’s relationship which will be told in a sequence of flashbacks throughout the film. The cast members from the live-action remake of The Lion King are set to return such as: Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé as Nala, Billy Eichner as Timon, and Seth Rogen as Pumba, with some new additions like Blue Ivy Carter playing Simba and Nala’s daughter, Kiara, and more. 


Freakier Friday (2025) 

Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan strutted their stuff on the D23 stage and unveiled the name of the long awaited sequel to their 2003 popular film Freaky Friday. Just in–it’s Freakier Friday! Lohan and Curtis are reprising their roles of mother daughter duo Anna Coleman and Tess Coleman respectively, while Chad Michael Murray who played Jake will also be coming back. There will also be some new faces like Manny Jacinto who will be playing Lohan’s husband in the film. There is no official date of when the film will be released but it will be somewhere in 2025.

Lilo & Stitch (2025) 

Ohana definitely does mean family, especially with these adored bands of characters coming back in a new live-action version of the beloved Disney movie Lilo & Stitch. The lovable blue alien Stitch will be voiced by the original animation films voice actor, Chris Sanders, with Maia Kealoha starring as Lilo. The cast also includes Sydney Agudong as Lilo’s older sister Nani, Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley, Zach Galifianakis as Jumba, and Kaipo Dudoit as Nani’s love interest David. Lilo & Stitch currently does not have an official date of release but is expected to come out sometime in the summer of 2025.
