Demi Moore recently graced the cover of Variety magazine. Not that this legend needs a specific occasion or reason to be on the cover of a magazine coupled with an exclusive interview. But it just so happens that she does have a new project coming out very soon. So, let’s dive into what the magazine is calling Demi’s “glorious return.”
The Substance is Demi’s upcoming film and is the perfect way to start off the fall season. With a September 20th release date, just in time for Halloween, this horror film is the platform to see the actress in full effect. Demi plays the role of Elisabeth Sparkle, a “fading celebrity” who uses a black-market drug to create a younger version of herself. This may sound like a fantasy film but considering it’s being categorized as “body horror,” let’s assume that things do not go very well for her character.
Now, back to her magazine cover! Demi looks regal wearing a black Ashi Studio gown styled by celebrity stylist, Brad Goreski. With her natural-looking makeup by Francesca Tolot enhancing her effortless beauty, we’re still able to see Demi’s glamorous superstar aura. The words, “The Demi-ssance” are written next to her as she leans gracefully against a grayish wall. There’s only one question remaining.
What is a “Demi-ssance?” Well in her interview with Variety’s Matt Donnelly, she elaborates on where she is in her life in relation to her career and self-esteem, and how it relates to her latest role. Her character is struggling with accepting that she is aging and no longer in her physical or professional “prime.”This understandably results in her doubting her own self-worth. Her self-esteem is impacted tremendously, and she ultimately pays for it. Demi explains, “One of the biggest themes of my career is challenging preconceived ideas and limitations. I’m at a point where I’m writing my own story, as opposed to my story being dictated to me based on my age.” She continues, “who says somebody can’t look a certain way or do certain things? Your 60s is not what your 60s used to be. There’s a part of me that is enjoying figuring it out as I go along.” It seems like this is her beautiful evolution.
There you have it. Demi Moore is in a place in her career and life that we can only hope to reach one day. She has graced our television screens for decades and looked fabulous as she has executed every single character flawlessly even through negative critiques and opinions. And at the age of 61 she is embracing it all! She’s defying the preconceived notions that come with her age and addressing it through this role. Now that’s definitely a renaissance. Excuse me, a “Demi-ssance.”
