Concert Review: Taemin Ephemeral Gaze

Taemin is currently on his first world tour, Ephemeral Gaze, and we attended the Los Angeles concert on February 23.

Widely recognized as one of the best dancers in the K-pop industry, Taemin delivered a breathtaking performance. Watching his skills live was an incredible experience—there were moments when we were watching his dancing so intently, we momentarily forgot that he was singing at the same time! It was truly mesmerizing.

He performed around 21 songs by himself, which is a feat! The concert was divided into three main sections plus an encore. His setlist included every track from his latest album, Eternal, along with a mix of fan favorites and other solo releases. Between sets, he also took time to speak with the audience and even performed a few a cappella songs.

Production-wise, there was a large backdrop with three screens displaying Taemin, his dancers, and various video graphics. Lighting was used to set the scene as well.

“Deja Vu,” “Guilty,” and “Advice” were the perfect trifecta to open the show. Out of these three performances, it’s hard to not choose “Advice” as a favorite. Seeing it performed live was everything we had hoped for and more.

Another song that also left a lasting impression on us was “Heaven.” Since we didn’t watch any concert videos before attending, we were kind of surprised that it had choreography!

The next set included two of our favorite songs from Taemin’s recent releases—“The Unknown Sea” and “Blue.” These two songs immediately stood out as favorites the first time we listened to them. For this part of the set, there was no choreography, and Taemin was alone on stage. The visuals on screen were beautiful, and the lights from the Taemin and SHINee lightsticks, along with phone flashlights, really set the mood.

One of the most surprising performances of the night was “Sexy In The Air.” The background music was enhanced with an electric guitar and loud drums, which brought the energy all the way up! The red lights and accompanying spotlights also intensified the experience. This was one of our favorite performances of the night.

The final section before the encore included one of our all-time favorite Taemin songs—“Criminal.” This performance was an experience in itself! Taemin even added a solo dance part after the second chorus, which was nothing short of incredible. Another standout during this section was “Horizon,” a song we hadn’t listened to much before seeing live. It’s always great to leave a concert with a few new songs to check out.

After “Horizon,” there was a fan-led sing-along to Taemin’s song “2 Kids,” then the encore.

Before the final song of the night, “Say Less,” a fan project video was shown on one of the big screens. Taemin’s fans made a video to show their love for him and to celebrate his first world tour. It was so nice to see the support, and you could tell that he was touched by the gesture.

Taemin is currently on the European leg of the Ephemeral Gaze tour and will play in Frankfurt, Germany; London, England; Tilburg, the Netherlands; Paris, France; and Brussels, Belgium, before finishing this part of the tour in Manchester, England, on March 18, 2025.

Taemin will also go to Honolulu, Hawaii, and Tokyo, Japan, before ending the entire tour in Kobe, Japan, on April 20, 2025.

If you have a chance to see Taemin live, please go—you’ll have so much fun! We are so happy that he is finally able to do a world tour after being in the industry for so long and can’t wait to see him live again!
