INTERVIEW: Caleb Hearn Lights Up Paris with Raw, Emotional Music

Caleb Hearn made his official Paris debut this week, performing for fans in a city celebrated for its vibrant cultural and musical scene. Despite a surprise performance near the Notre-Dame the day before, Hearn expressed genuine excitement about playing a full show, highlighting the honor of performing in such a storied city.

Music has always been an essential part of Hearn’s life. Born into a musical family, with a mother who wrote songs and an uncle in bands, he also sang in church from a young age. During a challenging period in his personal life, music became a vital outlet for his emotions. It was this connection to songwriting that eventually shaped his career.

“The main thing that made me want to do this for the rest of my life was that as a kid my parents were going through a divorce, which was really heavy on me. I started writing music as a way to get my emotions and feelings out. That’s kind of where music came from and why I wanted to make it in the first place.”

When asked if he had ever imagine touring the world and achieving success:

“No, not at all. I didn’t think that far ahead. I was kind of just doing it as an emotional escape, and then it kind of just snowballed.”

Hearn cites artists such as Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, and John Mayer as major influences. Their ability to craft simple yet universally relatable songs has left a clear imprint on his own music, which blends personal vulnerability with universal themes of love, loss, and emotional growth.

Some of Hearn’s songs stand out for their raw emotional impact. Always Be 2.0, written after the death of a close friend, helped him process grief, while Klonopin captures intense emotions in real time, reflecting an open wound that Hearn shared with his audience.

“I used to hold back a lot more. Now I’m trying to be very honest and authentic, even if it’s sometimes a darker place that a lot of people don’t want to go and talk about. (…) ‘Always Be 2.0’ was about my best friend who passed away. I wrote it years after it happened, (…) I was not dealing with my problems and emotions and that song helped me get that out finally. Almost felt like the ending of a book, like coming to terms with that really happened and how I feel about it. ‘Klonopin’ was more recent and more real in the moment. That song did felt like an open wound at the time. It was hard for me to put out, it was very touchy and emotional, but I’m very glad I did.”

In 2025, Hearn released three singles—The LowsBite the Bullet, and Play It Safe—each exploring different aspects of love and human connection. Fans attending his Paris show were also treated to a live debut of Silver Lining, an unreleased track that offers a glimpse into his evolving sound.

‘The Lows’ is about love, friendship, unconditional love. ‘Bite the Bullet’ is fun, energetic, a bit reckless. ‘Play It Safe’ is mature, a new-age kind of thing, and also about love.

Hearn has been working on a larger project for the past two years, promising more music that continues his honest, heartfelt storytelling. His message to fans in Paris emphasized connection and energy: he encouraged them to sing along, enjoy the night, and look forward to future performances.

Through authenticity, vulnerability, and a deep connection to his personal experiences, Caleb Hearn continues to captivate audiences worldwide, leaving a memorable mark on the Parisian music scene.
