Be on the Lookout for These Shows: Streaming Platform Edition

There are so many streaming platforms to keep track of and there seem to be more and more each year. Therefore, it’s not easy to monitor what is premiering on which platform every month. Hopefully, this short yet comprehensive list of what’s to come will be helpful.

Court of Gold – Netflix (February 18)

Netflix will be airing a series about the 2024 Paris Olympics. Surprisingly enough it’s focused on basketball. As we all know gymnastics has been the star of 2024 and 2020, so it’s refreshing to see another sport highlighted. Netflix follows the USA, Canadian, French, and Serbian teams as they embark on their 2024 journey. The trailer includes clips of interviews with Kevin Durant, locker room footage that makes you feel like part of the team, and some of the best game footage that any sports fan can appreciate. Be sure to stream Court of Gold if you’d like to relive the basketball magic of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Running Point – Netflix (February 27)

Comedy series, Running Point, may be up your alley if you like sports mixed with humor. Kate Hudson (Bride Wars) returns to our screens as the underestimated owner of the fictional basketball team the Los Angeles Waves. As she navigates being a female sports team owner, as well as being the only woman in the family business of basketball, she glamorously and humorously finds a way to succeed with the odds stacked against her. You can see Kate Hudson run point on February 27.

Long Bright River – Peacock (March 13)

Amanda Seyfried will be starring in Peacock’s upcoming limited series, Long Bright River. Portraying Mickey, a Philadelphia police officer, the Mean Girls star will be playing a very different role than we’re used to. Navigating the slew of murders that begin in the neighborhood she patrols, while balancing her personal history, proves to be difficult when she realizes that there may be a connection between the two. The series is adapted from the #1 New York Times bestseller by the same title. Although Seyfried is not new to serious roles, it will be very interesting witnessing her playing law enforcement. You can stream the new series on Peacock on March 13.

PEACOCK

Good American Family – Hulu (March 19)

This Hulu limited true crime drama stars Grey’s Anatomy favorite, Ellen Pompeo! We’re happy to see that her taking a step back from the show was her wanting to broaden her horizons, and not wanting to leave the spotlight completely—we love her too much! But this show is nothing like Grey’s Anatomy. In the series, Pompeo plays a Midwestern wife who adopts a little girl from Ukraine with her husband. However, it turns out that they didn’t adopt a little girl at all. They adopted a grown woman with Dwarfism. The show is based on the true events surrounding Ukrainian-born woman, Natalia Grace, who pretended to be a child to be adopted by the Barnet family.

This transition from playing Meredith Grey to portraying Kristine Barnett was not easy, according to Pompeo. When speaking to Vanity Fair for a recent interview, she revealed that she felt she needed to prove she could play someone besides Meredith Grey after all this time. She not only wanted to prove this to critics, but to herself. Regardless of how long she portrayed Meredith, there is nothing saying that she won’t be equally as mesmerizing as Kristine Barnett. Stream Good American Family on March 19.

Hulu / Vanity Fair

The Residence – Netflix (March 20)

Orange Is The New Black‘s Uzo Aduba will be starring in Shonda Rhimes’ new Netflix series. The Residence follows Detective Cordelia Cupp (Aduba) as she is tasked with discovering who committed a murder in The White House. She has to figure this out with 157 possible suspects. She humorously and awkwardly makes her way through the clues while frustrating and confusing her everyone around her. If you’ like to find out whodunit, tune in to Netflix on March 20.

Happy Face – Paramount+ (March 20)

To many of us, Dennis Quaid will always be Nick Parker, the father of Hallie Parker and Annie James on The Parent Trap. If that’s the case for you, this new show on Paramount+ may ruin that image for you. He is still playing the role of a father, but his character, “Happy Face,” is nothing like Nick. In Happy Face, Quad plays a serial killer and father to Melissa (Annaleigh Ashford). The series is based on a real-life events surrounding Canadian man, Keith Jesperson, who killed at least 8 America women over the course of 5 years. He was deemed the “happy face killer” because of his letters to authorities that he would sign with a happy face just to taunt them. The drama is chilling and depicts the experience of a daughter who discovers her father is a serial killer. Happy Face will be available to stream on Paramount + on March 20.

Lil Kev – BETPlus (Spring)

There aren’t many cartoons for adults these days, aside from Family Guy, American Dad, The Simpsons, etc. It looks like Kevin Hart is here to change that. This week, Kevin expressed his enthusiasm about his upcoming adult cartoon series titled Lil Kev. The animated show is a comedy inspired by his childhood. Knowing Kevin and his comedic style, it’s safe to say that there will be a lot of raw humor and unfiltered satire—it will be unapologetically Kevin Hart. He took to Instagram stating, “This is 12-year-old me navigating crazy misadventures, where my dreams get bigger, and life gets crazier by the day.” Plus, Wanda Sykes (The Upshaws) will be voicing the role of his mother, Nancy, while Deon Cole (Black-ish) will be voicing his infamous Uncle Richard Jr. We’re in for a treat. The show will be available to stream on BET Plus and will be the streaming service’s first animated series.  Lil Kev will be coming to BET Plusthis spring so hopefully an official premiere date is soon to follow.

There you have it! Between BET Plus, Netflix, Paramount+, Hulu, and Peacock you have a few shows to look forward to in the coming months. Whether you prefer adult cartoons, violent drama, sports, comedic mysteries, sinister true crime stories, or novel adaptations there’s something here for you. Be on the lookout!
