The month of August is bittersweet. It’s the last full month of the summer season including beach days and amusement parks. It’s the first day of school for many and it’s extremely hot and humid. But that’s no reason not to enjoy everything that it has to offer! This includes watching uninterrupted television and film before the summer break is over! So here is a comprehensive list of what to watch whether you are a streamer or a movie theater goer, a comedy enjoyer, or a suspense junky. Let’s dive in…
- Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie (Netflix) – August 2nd
Yes, SpongeBob SquarePants lovers! The Sandy Cheeks we all grew up with will be taking center stage in the latest SpongeBob SquarePants movie. Why must Bikini Bottom be saved, you ask? Apparently, it was scooped out of the ocean forcing SpongeBob and Sandy to venture all the way to Sandy’s hometown of Texas to save it. The characters that we know, and love will be returning including SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Squidward, and the infamous Plankton. Actress and comedian Wanda Sykes will also be making an appearance. So, tune in to Netflix on August 2nd to see how Sandy Cheeks saves Bikini Bottom!
- The Umbrella Academy (4th and Final Season) (Netflix) – August 8th
To quote the Academy itself, “It’s the final timeline!” That’s right, Brellies! It’s time to saddle up for the 4th and final season of The Umbrella Academy. The Hargreeves must figure out how to save the world, once again. Only this time they must do so without their superpowers. Based off the season 4 trailer, we can expect to see all of our favorite siblings including Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (David Castaneda), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Number 5 (Aidan Gallagher), Ben (Justin Min), and Viktor (Elliot Page) saving the world once and for all. - Cuckoo (Theaters) – August 9th
Hunter Schafer has been busy working during the Euphoria filming hiatus. She will be starring in the upcoming horror flick, Cuckoo. Schafer plays a teenager named Gretchen who moves from the United States to a resort in the German Alps with her father. Things quickly reveal themselves to not be what they seem when her environment and the people in it get a little creepy, or for lack of a better term, cuckoo. After premiering at the Berlin International Film Festival in February, Cuckoo will be available in theaters August 9th.
- It Ends With Us (Theaters) – August 9th
Blake Lively is blessing us with her on-screen presence again. She’s starring in the upcoming movie It Ends with Us as the main character, Lily Bloom. She portrays a dynamic young woman who moves to Boston for a fresh start. She then meets an enigmatic neurosurgeon, Ryle, who seems to check all her romantic boxes. Ironically when she starts seeing Ryle’s red flags, she becomes reacquainted with her first love, Atlas, after many years. This cinematic adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s best-selling novel can be seen in theaters starting August 9th.
- Borderlands (Theaters) – August 9th
Cate Blanchett is the star of the movie upcoming Borderlands. After Lilith (Blanchett) returns to her home planet she meets some unlikely friends who assist her in battling monsters, aliens, and other villains to find a missing girl. You can see Blanchett play a badass otherworldly outlaw in this action/ sci-fi movie starring Ariana Greenblatt, Jaime Lee Curtis, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart in theaters August 9th.
- Emily in Paris (Season 4: Part 1) (Netflix) – August 15th
Emily Cooper (Lily Collins) will be returning to our screens for her 4th season in Paris. Fashionable as ever, she still finds herself trying to choose between Alfie and Gabriel. Quite a dilemma. Watch Emily continue to navigate the complicated dating and professional Parisian waters with friend, Mindy (Ashley Park), by her side. You can see Emily in Paris for the first part of season 4, August 15th, only on Netflix.
- Reasonable Doubt (Season 2) (Hulu)– August 22nd
The 2nd season of Reasonable Doubt is centered around attorney, Jax Stewart, starting fresh after last season’s dangerous affair and grueling trial. Jax, played by Emayatzy Corinealdi, must continue to juggle work, family, and love along with more twists and turns. She must also manage the bomb of a confession that was dropped on her by her best friend at the end of season 1. Watch this legal drama (if you can keep up) on Hulu and Disney+ on August 22nd.
- Blink Twice (Theaters) – August 23rd
Zoe Kravitz uses her directing talents to tap into some of our worst fears with Blink Twice, starring Channing Tatum. Tatum who plays Slater King, a tech billionaire, invites a working-class woman named Frida (Naomi Ackie) and her friend to his private island for a fun filled luxurious vacation with some of his own friends. However, Frida and her friend become suspicious when their memories start to fail them, and they witness strange things happening around them. So if you’d like to see the beautiful Channing Tatum portray a charming yet sinister billionaire, you should go to the nearest theater and see Blink Twice on August 23rd.
- Only Murders in the Building (Season 4) (Hulu)– August 27th
In case you don’t remember the season 3 cliffhanger of Only Murders in the Building, I’ll remind you. The season ended with the mysterious murder of Charles’ stunt double, Sazz Pataki. While it has not been discovered whether Charles was the intended target, the questions are accumulating. You can help Mabel (Selena Gomez), Charles (Steve Martin), and Oliver (Martin Short) solve murders in their building, August 27th, on Hulu and Disney+.
- The Deliverance (Netflix) – August 30th
The Deliverance is for the horror movie lovers. Director, Lee Daniels, is delivering a star-studded flick including Glen Close, Mo’Nique, Andra Day, Caleb McLaughlin, Omar Epps, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. The movie follows the strange and horrifying occurrences that take place when a family discovers their home may be a portal to hell. You can find the truth behind the horror by watching The Deliverance on Netflix, August 30th.
