All you need to know about Netflix’s upcoming rom-com ‘The Life List’

A rom-com based on Lori Nelson Spielman’s novel “The Life List” is coming to Netflix. Here’s what you need to know.

What is The Life List about?

The film is based on the international best-seller novel of the same name by Lori Nelson Spielman, although they changed the main character’s name from Brett Bohlinger to Alex Rose for the movie.

According to Netflix’s official logline,

“When Alex Rose’s mother sends her on a quest to complete her childhood bucket list, it takes her on a journey that will make you both laugh and cry as she uncovers family secrets, finds romance, and discovers herself along the way.”

Additionally, the official book synopsis can be found in Lori Nelson Spielman’s website, but keep in mind that there might be several changes to the story, starting with the main character’s name.

Brett Bohlinger seems to have it all: a plum job, a spacious loft, an irresistibly handsome boyfriend. All in all, a charmed life. That is, until her beloved mother passes away, leaving behind a will with one big stipulation: In order to receive her inheritance, Brett must first complete the life list of goals she’d written when she was a naïve girl of fourteen.

Grief-stricken, Brett can barely make sense of her mother’s decision—her childhood dreams don’t resemble her ambitions at age thirty-four in the slightest. Some seem impossible. How can she possibly have a relationship with a father who died seven years ago? Other goals (Be an awesome teacher!) would require her to reinvent her entire future. As Brett reluctantly embarks on a perplexing journey in search of her adolescent dreams, one thing becomes clear. Sometimes life’s sweetest gifts can be found in the most unexpected places.
